Area guide - What to do at the weekend

Ultimate Property Javea is more than just a property finder; we help you to learn all about the surrounding areas too and what to do on a weekend. Although we live in the beautiful town of Javea, everyone sometimes needs to get away for a few days rest which includes a change of scenery and no work!

So where can we go, what can we do? Let’s go camping I thought. We did our research and looked at Javea, Moraira, Calpe… even places like Benidorm were being suggested on Google, but that’s just not our style of camping.! Initially I had to broach the subject with Dawn, who enjoys her Javea home comforts like a hair dryer, but once she’d gotten over the initial shock, was very excited to leave the Ultimate Property Javea offices and explore a bit more of the Costa Blanca.

The only caveat in our trip was that our camping holiday was actually a "glamping" one. What this means is, you still get to enjoy the outside and the camping experience, without all the downsides like pitching tents, getting wet and noisy neighbours! At just over an hour’s drive from Javea and inland from the vibrant city of Alicante, we arrived at our new home in the village called La Romana for the next 2 days. It was actually a huge bell tent complete with double bed and electricity. The highlight for me was a BBQ & campfire, which completed the ideal getaway for me. We soon settled in and forgot all about the tourist friendly Javea and almost became at one with nature.

Set in the grounds of the owner’s home with a mountainous undulating backdrop, and views of the grape vines, this was exactly what we needed without even realising it. We did a bit of touring around the local area of La Romana and learned that this is where stone is quarried for your marble floor tiles and lovely granite kitchen worktops in your Costa Blanca properties! You can actually see it at the source, which was great for us as we see it in place in older fincas and modern luxurious homes too. We did a bit of local Alicante wine tasting (when in Rome…), walked around the peaceful village and then back to the tent for the evening where we sipped wine under the stars and listened to the summer sounds of the cicadas.

We had a lovely relaxing time with no TV, no radio, no phone and no computer. It was a complete change to our daily routine of helping people find their dream homes on the Costa Blanca, however like all good things, it must come to an end and we drove back along the Mediterranean coastline to our home in Javea. If you’re visiting or living in the area, we’d highly recommend booking a camping (or even a glamping) trip as it’s a great way to explore Spain from a completely different pace of life.

Oh, did we forget to mention, another trip highlight was the chickens that lived on site in the gardens. They make wonderful companions when you’re out and about and provide fresh eggs in the morning too! Maybe Dawn will let me get a few chicks now we’re back in Javea… The Ultimate Property Javea offices will never be the same again!
