Javea

 

Javea is a captivating location on the North Costa Blanca, located midway between Alicante and Valencia. Mainland Spain's most easterly point, it has been called Dawn of Spain, where the sun first rises. It is without doubt one of the prettiest areas on the Mediterranean coast and magnificently dominated by the Montgo Mountain.

Javea is sheltered by the Montgo Mountain, which separates the resort from Denia, as well as the Cabo de San Antonio cliffs to the North of the town. These are fabulous nature reserves where you can enjoy amazing views across the Mediterranean Sea and into the town of Javea.

The coast of Javea is 25 kilometers long, with beautiful award winning beaches, transparent turquoise waters, historic buildings, orange groves and pine forests which surrounds them. The sea and its coasts lined with cliffs, small islands, coves, and beaches of sand or pebbles. With its variety of landscape, mild year round climate, Javea is a special place on the Costa Blanca North.

Javea has a population of about 33,000 of whom 14,000 are Spanish. It is a firm favourite with British residents and nearly 9,000 have settled here. The population more than doubles in the summer months as tourists from Europe, including other parts of Spain, head for the bustling beach resort.

Javea has a large expat community who have set up many groups and organisations where you can meet new people and find out more about the area.

As well as the Spanish schools, a couple of international colleges have built up a great reputation in Javea where pupils can follow the English education system.

Javea has good road links with other popular coastal resorts in the Alicante province as well as with Alicante (100kms from Javea) and Valencia (110kms). Both these cities have international airports with many daily flights to the UK and other north European countries as well as fast train links with many Spanish cities including Madrid and Barcelona.

Javea has three main areas to enjoy – the Arenal beach, Javea port and old town. Each has its own distinct personality.

 

The Arenal beach is set within a shell shaped bay and warm, shallow waters lap its shore. Summer at the Arenal is lively and busy. Javea port has been transformed over the years into one of the main centres of the town. It is a lively, bustling area, an ideal place to sit at one of its many restaurants and bars overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Or take a stroll along the palm fringed promenade to see the arrival of the local fishing fleet bringing in the days catch. The modern yacht club has nearly 300 berths with luxury yachts and speedboats and is overlooked by the imposing cliffs of San Antoni.

Historic buildings, traditional Spanish squares and the imposing Gothic San Bartolome church contributes to making Javea’s old town a very special place to visit. Strolling along the narrow streets, you will stumble across interesting shops, fabulous tapas bars and restaurants.

The Mediterranean Sea is a playground for water sports enthusiasts especially divers, snorkelers, sailors, and jet-skiers. Golfers have a choice of courses nearby while tennis players can enjoy practicing in the home town of top player David Ferrer who has set up a tennis academy in the town.

 

An essential element of Spanish culture is the fiesta. Jávea is no exception when it comes to the enthusiasm to party and there are celebrations throughout the year. Fiestas such as the mid summer celebrations of San Juan or the colours and noise with the re-enactment of battles between the Moors and Christians in Javea port.
